Sometimes life can be pretty overwhelming.

Like when you have a suicidal friend, a 15-page paper looming over your head, and personal hurts that are minor compared to what you see in others around you, but still rear their ugly heads at inopportune moments. Among other things (like the decision of what to do with the rest of your life...).

Yet in this midst of all this, there is peace. In yesterday's sermon on John 15, the pastor said, "God is never so close to the vine as he is when he is pruning it." Truth.

This too shall pass.

(Thanksgiving is coming.)

Karissa,
We look forward to having you around at Christmas and hearing more updates on your plans.

I was thinking the other day how sometimes saying "God is in control" sounds so much like a pat answer to life's unanswerable problems and challenges. Yet we all need something to reach out to that is beyond ourselves when we feel so helpless and out of control.

Human failure and imperfection explains the heartache we experience; human need and helplessness explains the perfect fit God is in our brokenness. That may sound pat too, but it's what can fill us when we are feeling empty and alone and even scared.

It doesn't matter how long we've been a Christian or how much Christian teaching we've had, life does not discriminate - issuing out pain and sorrow to everyone. So don't feel like you need to minimize your struggles. The things you mentioned can be pretty depressing and scary. I'm glad you are open to hearing the Spirit in the midst of it all.

Sorry I missed saying "hi" last Sunday - ran downstairs to catch you but you disappeared :-)

Take care!
